Staying Smart Online for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month
October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). What started as a national campaign in 2004 has grown to a global movement in cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month has been a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure that all Americans have the information they need to stay safer and more secure online.
The effort is co-led by the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) and the Department of Homeland Security & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
If You Connect It, Protect It
The line between our online and offline lives is indistinguishable. This network of connections creates both opportunities and challenges for individuals and organizations across the globe.
Once plugged into the internet, connected devices are attacked within 5 minutes and targeted by specific exploits in 24 hours (NETSCOUT). If everyone does their part — implementing stronger security practices, raising community awareness, educating vulnerable audiences or training employees — our interconnected world will be safer and more resilient for everyone.
As a NCSAM Champion, Cyber Solutions Technologies, along with the NCSA and CISA invite you to participate in Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October as we encourage all users to own their role in protecting connected devices.
The Facts About Hacks
Hackers don’t distinguish who they attack. It’s important to consider what cybersecurity measures you should take to protect your devices. Take a look at the following stats and figures to see just how prevalent hacking is in today’s world.
- Hackers attack every 39 seconds, on average 2,244 times a day. (University of Maryland)
- 56% of Americans don’t know what steps to take in the event of a data breach. (Varonis)
- 46% of organizations got all of their malware via email. (Verizon 2020 Data Breach Investigations Report)
